Ebi tempura makes it to the top of my list as one of my all time favorite food. I like it medium battered, crunchy on the outside but soft and succulent on the inside. The tempura sauce must not be the watered down versions served in many restaurants. I prefer a good balance of salty (soy sauce) and sweet (mirin and sugar) with fresh grated ginger and daikon. For my ebi tempura cravings, Tenya Tempura Tendon (Tenya) is the answer!

Tenya’s Tempura Tendon – Heaven in a bowl!

The program started with a geisha dance performed to the live beating of Japanese drums (wadaiko). Thereafter CEO Chukri Prieto and GM Edmundo Ramos welcomed the guests to the opening of the 9th branch of Tenya at Tiendesitas. “We aim to provide our customers with high quality tendon dishes at a very affordable price. Most of our ingredients are imported from Japan to ensure that we serve the best tasting dishes,” said Ramos.

Tenya prides itself for its deep-fried battered seafood, meat and vegetables which are cooked using infrared heat technology ensuring consistent tempura every time.

Tenya Tiendesitas is the biggest branch yet and can comfortably accommodate up to 80 guests. The second floor can sit 40 people and can be booked for private functions.

Tenya prides itself for its deep-fried battered seafood, meat, and vegetables which are cooked using infrared heat technology ensuring consistent tempura every time. Cooked in 100% healthy canola oil and special flour, it is then laid over steaming Japanese rice and drizzled with its signature dontare sauce, a special blend that gives an umami touch that complements the tempura.

It was difficult to order from the day’s menu because everything looked tempting. The choices included the All-Star Tendon (P325) and Teishoku set (395) which has black tiger prawn, squid, salmon, kani and green beans and shimeji mushrooms. The Tempura Ramen (345) in tonkotsu ramen broth is a winner. It came topped with ground pork, eggplant, tiger prawns and green beans.

As we were enjoying our Japanese feast, Miss Tintin Pantoja took the floor and we had a most interesting talk about Japanese Anime. My daughter tried her hand at drawing her own anime character and her work elicited praises from everyone.

Another drumming number signaled the end of the luncheon event. Glad we have a Tenya restaurant closer to home (Festival Mall). Other branches are located at Sm Megamall, Market!Market!, BGC Stopover, Paseo de Magallanes, SM MOA, Aseana City and SM Southmall.
